Healthy eating is a topic that has generated a lot of excitement in recent years. Superfoods are gaining popularity, but not everyone knows what is behind this mysterious name.

What are superfoods?

Superfoods have exceptional nutritional properties. It is worth mentioning here both exotic products and those that can easily be found in the domestic kitchen. This unique, so to speak elite group includes products that contain a complete set of nutrients, as well as a lot of mineral salts and vitamins. These are mainly vegetables, fruits, herbs and seeds. Thanks to their rich nutrients, these products provide the body with everything it needs every day to function properly. A daily diet enriched with superfoods will make the prevention of many diseases more efficient, and we will feel better. A high dose of antioxidants can inhibit the possible development of cancer cells – sounds promising!

Superfoods – a dietary staple or just a supplement?

When planning your daily menu, make sure it is varied. A balanced diet is one that, on the one hand, provides the body with the right calorific value, and on the other, is rich in a set of valuable nutrients, including both macro and micro components. A diet that takes into account the individual needs of the body is best developed in consultation with an experienced dietician. A specialist, arranging a menu, will take into account not only your age or type of work, but will also take into account chronic diseases with which you are struggling, will take into account your favourite dishes, and will pay attention to keeping additional caloric expenditure during workouts under control. When it comes to super foods, they should only be an addition to your daily diet. Superfoods alone, while obviously healthy, are not able to meet the body’s daily needs for a complete set of nutrients.

Superfoods – the most popular products

In some grocery stores you can find separate sections dedicated to superfoods. What is on the shelves? The increasingly popular goji berries, quinoa and puréed plants are sure to attract customers’ attention first.

Goji ber ries – their name is so exotic that some people may have a lot of trouble pronouncing it correctly. There is no denying that these inconspicuous fruits of intense red color have many properties beneficial to human health. Studies conducted on their composition have shown, among others, a high content of vitamin C and B vitamins. They are also rich in zinc and selenium – valuable elements, without which the proper functioning of the human body is significantly impaired. How can regular consumption of goji berries help? Specialists emphasize their role in reducing stress and stabilizing heart function. They also help lower blood pressure. A healthy diet supplemented with goji berries also means better immunity.

Quinoa – is also known as quinoa. It can be used as a base for a tasty dessert, although it can also be successfully used for dinner dishes. It is recommended for deficiencies of such elements as iron, magnesium and phosphorus. What is important, it does not contain gluten, so it can be consumed by people suffering from food allergies.

Chasteberry – has been enjoying unflagging popularity for years. It has been the basis of many slimming, cleansing and immunity-boosting treatments. It is also known for its strong antioxidant properties. It is widely used both in cooking and in cosmetics. The results of consuming an infusion of puree can be observed after a few weeks.
