Winter is a period when we tend to get sick quite often. It is worth to make sure that the home first-aid kit is properly equipped – it will help us to react quickly and fight the unwanted intruder!

How to take care of home first-aid kit?

Home first aid kit – on the one hand extremely important thing, on the other hand, often neglected. It is so, that we remember about medicines or dressings only in a situation, when they are needed here and now. A well-known saying says that the prudent person is always insured. It is worth taking these words to heart and make sure in advance that the home first-aid kit for the winter time contains everything that can be useful.

Every first aid kit (car, home or the one you take on a trip) should be, above all, complete. Before you go to the pharmacy to fill the kit with the most necessary specs, sit in a comfortable chair and for a long moment think about what you might need. Buying out half of the pharmacy is pointless. However, keep in mind that there are specifics, which can not be missing in the home first aid kit.

Home first aid kit for winter – what should it contain?

Winter is a special time. Winter first-aid kit should be maximally universal. On the one hand it should contain specifics for cold. Low temperature, snow-soaked shoes and frosty wind make it easy to get infected. On the other hand, there is no shortage of other injuries – falls on icy sidewalks are not uncommon. Make sure your first aid kit is complete so that you always have the medications you need on hand.

Bruises, sprains and strains

A sprained ankle is a persistent pain and a limitation in normal functioning. In winter, the chance of such an injury increases significantly, especially when the administration of the surrounding buildings does not take care of regular snow removal from the sidewalks. Injuries to bones and joints usually require a medical consultation to rule out fracture.

Before you see a doctor, however, you can try to relieve the pain and protect the injury yourself. Sterile bandages, disinfectant (hydrogen peroxide or a special spray bottle), compresses, and bandages are all useful. Also, don’t forget clips to secure the bandage or a plaster to seal the bandage with. In addition, regardless of the season, the first aid kit should also include scissors and disposable gloves (it may happen that the injury will happen to a friend who comes to visit, and then you need to take more precautions than when dressing your family).

Colds and other stubborn infections

A long-lasting infection requires a visit to the doctor, but a simple runny nose or a slightly red throat does not bother many of us – as long as they do not significantly impede everyday life, we think that everything is fine. For the winter time it is worth to have in your medicine cabinet preparations improving body immunity (e.g. containing vitamin C). Medicines available in pharmacies without prescription may also be useful, thanks to which you can reduce aches and pains or reduce high temperature. Some of these specifics also work anti-inflammatory. If the symptoms of infection persist for several days and the discomfort increases, it is necessary to make an appointment to see a doctor.

As it is winter, it is cold – because, unfortunately, but this is the climate we have? And this climate favors infections, colds,.

Protection from the sun

It may seem that sunscreen is a must-have item in your summer medicine cabinet. But the reality is different, especially if you spend a lot of time outside in the winter. Anyone who hikes in the mountains in winter or does a lot of skiing is well aware of how dangerous the sun can be at this time of year. Sunburns also happen in the winter. With this in mind, it is worth to have in the winter kit sunscreen with a strong filter (such that can be used on the face, because in winter it is most exposed to direct contact with the sun), as well as preparations that will help relieve the discomfort associated with a possible skin burn.

Winter first-aid kit – what to remember?

Even the best equipped first aid kit is useless if the medicines in it are out of date. A few times a year find a moment to check the expiration dates of particular products. This way you will always replenish it on time. Remember one more thing – the first aid kit, especially the one containing medicines, should always be located in a place where small children do not have access to it.
